THICKNESS OF GLOVES
Choosing the right thickness with your nitrile gloves
One important property to consider when purchasing your protective gloves is thickness. Glove material thickness is typically measured in mils which is equal to one one-thousandth of an inch. For example, a glove which is 10 mil, is 0.010 inches thick. Disposable nitrile gloves tend to range from 4-8 mils thick and the thickness will make a difference to your ability to carry out tasks.
HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT THICKNESS:
-
Lower-gauge gloves - allows better flexibility, sense of touch and dexterity. Despite being thinner, some disposable nitrile gloves will be around 0.06mm-0.08mm in thickness and still provide splash resistance to chemicals.
-
Higher-gauge gloves - these protective gloves are typically re-usable and will provide better durability and a longer contact time resistance. You will have an added layer of protection from harmful chemicals and environmental hazards.
